On the market

DevriX is a Bulgarian-based WordPress design and development company ranking as one of the top 20 WordPress agencies worldwide.

We are currently looking for a PHP developer with WordPress expertise, who can join the core team in Bulgaria.

Our culture is geek-friendly. Our best engineers contribute to the WordPress Core, build open-source plugins, attend meetups and tech conferences, share technical articles on Slack, organize workshops, and strive for perfection in their coding challenges.

While the majority of our work is WordPress-based, we do develop a small subset of tools and platforms in a variety of frameworks and languages. Some of our R&D initiatives dab into machine learning and blockchain development.

What You'll Own

What you'll do

PHP Engineering

  1. Build PHP applications from scratch: custom libraries, components, API integrations, and automation scripts used across client platforms.
  2. Write optimal, reasonable, standardized code applying OOP and design patterns while working against specific PHP versions.
  3. Work with experimental APIs where they give us an edge, and document the trade-offs for the rest of the team.

Data & WordPress

  1. Handle different MySQL engines and develop scalable, optimized queries for high-traffic platforms.
  2. Develop and extend WordPress plugins, working within the life cycle of a WordPress application, its hook system, and general CMS patterns.
  3. Support a small subset of tools and platforms built in other frameworks and languages, including R&D initiatives around machine learning and blockchain.

Craft & Community

  1. Keep work visible on Git and in the project management system, reporting regularly on progress.
  2. Take responsibility towards the team, the code, the deadlines, and the overall business process.
  3. Contribute back to the Open Source community: WordPress Core, plugins, libraries, technical articles, and internal workshops.

Role Requirements

What you'll bring

  1. At least three years of practical PHP development experience, building applications from scratch, custom libraries, components, API integrations, and automation scripts.
  2. PHP skills: OOP, design patterns, working against specific PHP versions, producing optimal and reasonable standardized code. Using experimental APIs is recommended.
  3. SQL for MySQL understanding: being able to handle different MySQL engines and develop scalable and optimized queries.
  4. JavaScript: in-depth experience is a plus, though more limited use is acceptable (bonus for Backbone.js, Node.js, Angular.js, Ember.js and relevant).
  5. Experience with other languages (Java, C#, Python, Ruby, C/C++) is a plus.
  6. Experience with Version Control Systems is highly recommended: Git in particular, Hg or SVN would be acceptable.
  7. Experience with MVC frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony is a plus.
  8. WordPress backend development experience is recommended (not required if you're a mind-blowing PHP ninja), but awareness of the WordPress application life cycle, hook systems, and general CMS patterns helps a lot.
  9. Active participation and contribution to an Open Source community is a great plus: WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, or others.
  10. Candidates with Open Source products (plugins, libraries, frameworks) on GitHub, BitBucket, or another repository hosting platform are preferred.
  11. Motivated and ambitious, responsible to the team, code, deadlines, and the overall business process.
  12. Communicative and reporting regularly: we don't track all of your moves, but we need to see progress on Git and in the project management system.
