WordPress 6.7 new features

1. New Default Theme: Twenty Twenty-Five

Every year, WordPress releases a new default theme. It’s a tradition. Now, twenty twenty-five is here, and it looks really cool.

The twenty twenty-five theme is expected to set a new standard for block themes. One of its best features is that it uses the blog layout as the default view. The theme focuses on accessibility, and is very lightweight, making it easy to perform well on all devices.

2. Zoom Out Mode

WordPress 6.7 introduces the new Zoom Out Mode, which enables users to view and edit patterns from a higher level. This will make it a lot easier for users to manage their layouts across the whole page, ultimately leading to a more cohesive design experience.

3. Media File Improvements

For a long time now, it’s been a common challenge to many, especially Apple device users, to try to upload their HEIC images. Thankfully, 6.7 aims to resolve this issue by automatically HEIC images to JPEG.

To make sure your site supports HEIC conversion, you have to go to your Dashboard → Tools → Site Health and switch to Info. Scroll down to the Media Handling → ImageMagick supported file formats section and look for HEIC.

4. API for Preview Options

With the new Preview Options API, developers will be able to add custom preview settings in the editor, which will help them to easier preview how content will look before publishing.

5. Refined Query Loop Block

In WP 6.7, the Query Loop Block can use queries from the template by default.

This will greatly simplify the entire process, as your posts will automatically appear in both the editor and on the front end without the need for any additional setup.

6. Interactivity API Enhancements

Interactivity API was first introduced in WordPress 6.5. Now, some updates are coming our way.

The APIs will be more stable and efficient, making features like lazy loading and directive code splitting much easier to use.

These updates will also improve the performance of the interactivity API. It is expected that in the future, we will see more plugins and themes that use the API for dynamic features.

7. Block Library and Patterns

This new WordPress release will bring a couple of important changes to the Block Library. Here are the main updates:

Quote and Group Block Background Image Support

Users will now be able to add a background image to quote and group blocks. This way, you will be able to add a more compelling visual view to your blog posts.

Social Icons

The Add New Icon button will now be more usable. You can add borders around your social icons block.

Buttons Block

You will now be able to set a background color for the Buttons block.

Image Block

Users can now drag and drop multiple images onto an Image block. This way, it will automatically convert into a Gallery block.

8. Refined Data Views

Last but not least, WordPress continues to make adjustments to Data Views, which were introduced in earlier versions.

Data Views provides users with a great way to filter and manage their content in the editor. The Data View configuration user interface makes it easier to change the order of fields.

There have also been improvements to bulk actions and the user interface, such as the bulk actions menu, which has been moved to the footer, thus merging it with the floating toolbar and improving its overall usability.

Wrap Up

WordPress 6.7 “Rollins” is the last major release of 2024, and we can’t wait to test the new features and see how WordPress can be even better.

Last but not least, would like to congratulate our team members Todor Manoilov and Plamen Georgiev for being among the contributors to WordPress 6.7 – congratulations guys, we are proud of you, and keep up the good work!
