Background

About the client

Boom Battle Bar is an entertainment venue that combines a premium bar with a variety of competitive games. It’s a place where you can enjoy drinks and food, and engage in activities like augmented reality axe throwing, crazier golf, augmented reality darts, beer pong, shuffleboard, and more. They also offer private karaoke rooms and themed events like the ’90s brunch. Boom Battle Bar has locations across the UK and even an international location in Dubai. It’s designed as a fun space for birthdays, work events, or just a night out with friends.

How has the client found us?

We already knew the client from working on one of their other projects.

What was the primary pain point they were seeking to address?

They obtained a new business and required an adaptable digital platform to meet their latest project.

Why did they choose DevriX?

Having previously partnered with them on their Escape Hunt project, we had already earned their trust and proven our capabilities.

How long did it take to close the contract?

Within a week after agreeing on the timeline and roadmap for the launch phase.

What was the first milestone we hit for them?

A functioning site for each one of their locations.

The Challenge

When the client expanded their business by acquiring a new venture, we were tasked with migrating their outdated website with limited functionality and creating a new, more flexible digital platform.

Main Objective

The main objective was to improve the overall booking and planning experience for customers and increase the revenue by creating a subsite for each physical Boom Battle Bar location.

Having these would allow customers to easily find all the relevant details about a particular Boom Bar location and seamlessly book their desired experience, whether it’s for a birthday celebration, corporate function, or general visit. This would significantly improve the overall booking and planning experience for customers, and increase the revenue.

Main Issues and Solutions

The venues needed a unified website network.

Our solution: We created individual subsites for each physical location. These subsites showcase detailed information about available games and services, birthday party offerings, corporate event options, and more, tailored to the unique offerings of each venue.

The old platform was slow, inflexible, and difficult to use.

Our solution: We implemented a streamlined and agile solution for:

  • Enhanced speed
  • Better adaptability
  • Improved user-friendliness

The original website was static with limited editing and analytics.

Our solution: We made additional improvements and transformed it into a dynamic and feature-rich platform with:

  • Intuitive editing tools for administrators
  • Comprehensive analytics
  • Expanded functionality to drive engagement and growth

What We Had to Do?

  1. We assessed the content of the already existing platform and managed to reuse a portion of it for the new platform.
  2. Fine-tuned and customized the setup and features to perfectly match the new Boom Battle Bar’s needs. This required changes to the configurations and functions for the best performance and user experience.
  3. After setting up the framework, we focused on visual improvements:
    • We refined the colors and overall appearance.
    • We made sure the visuals aligned with the brand’s identity and created a consistent and visually appealing digital presence.

Technology Stack – How We Approached the Issues

WordPress Multisite

Each branch location was represented as a single subsite within a large WordPress Multisite Network. This structure allowed us to create hierarchical relationships between sites with their URLs (e.g., _uk/lakeside_, _uk/wandsworth_, _uk/cardiff_). This network configuration made the project highly scalable due to the ease of creating a new site for a new location.

Created Flexible Template

The client wanted the ability to build various pages, so we suggested using a Flexible Template created with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin. With this approach, we created new sections with a range of options, providing the marketing team with the needed flexibility to create new landing pages and manage the website content quickly and easily.

At the same time, several templates loaded specific information related to each branch, maintaining a consistent look and feel across the entire network.

Developed an In-house Geolocation Plugin

For the project’s needs, we had to develop our own WordPress Plugin that utilized the user’s location to find the nearest Boom Battle Bar locations around them.

Team

  • Project owner: Responsible for overall project vision, goals, and stakeholder management.
  • Project coordinator: Handles planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination between different teams/roles.
  • Lead back-end developer: Leads the server-side programming, database integration, and ensuring the application’s core functionality.
  • Front-end developer: Focuses on the user interface, visual elements, and ensuring a smooth user experience on the client-side.
  • QA Specialist: Responsible for testing the application thoroughly, identifying and reporting bugs/issues, and ensuring quality standards are met.

Everyone involved in the project was encouraged to monitor the site, report bugs, and add suggestions for future improvements. Of course, this remained the job of the QA team, but whenever there was room for improvement seen, it should have been reported in the official communication channels.

Client Quotes and Feedback

Very often we jumped on a few high-priority requests in both Escape Hunt and Boom Battle Bar projects and thanks to the team’s hard work, the client shared some warm words: “Amazing news – thank you so much”. Moreover, when they reached out to us with an urgent request from their CEO, their Global Product Manager remained impressed by our swift action and great results!#
